down to the absentee ballots to decide who will be city state's attorney. jennifer franciotti is live with more. good morning. >> there are people who believe the absentee votes do not matter. that is not the case in thhis race. despite the low turnout, it took the board of elections a full state to release complete returns. the race between bernstein and jessamy is too close to call. 3% was lost in limbo. judges forgot to turn in memory cards from 82 voting machines. the cards were tracked down. there is nothing suspicious or unusual about the slow accounting. >> when you have an election, it is not uncommon to not be at 100% within 24 hours. >> bernstein is leading jessamy by nearly 1300 votes. they are expecting to start counting the absentee ballots sometime this morning. jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> the smoke has cleared in the race for baltimore county executive. county council member kevin kamenetz has emerged as the winner. he has called for unity with joe bartenfelder and his supporters. >> it is time we put our differences behind us. i reached out to everyone in
turn violent. >> a senator is stepping down after being indicted on bribery and extortion. jennifer franciotti joins us now with more on the case. >> despite an fbi raid on his home in 2008, currie continued to work as investigators looked into his ties to shoppers food warehouse. he is accused of using his office to benefit the grocery store chains. it is alleged he was paid $245,000 to secure advantages for shoppers. the indictment says he tried to save the chain of money and to give them an extension on meeting energy efficiency standards. he is accused of smoothing the way for a liquor license. he was a consultant for shoppers and his fees were disclosed. the chair of public policy says it is unusual to see a paper trail in a bribery case. >> the information is pretty iinteresting in that usually there is not a paper tropics prosecutors say currie failed to disclose his income on ethics forms. he will step down from some of his duties. we'll have more at 6:30. >> a man will spend the rest of his life behind bars. he was convicted back in may for the murder of another man in octo
firefighters put to the test with two four-alarm fires yesterday. >> jennifer franciotti with more on that story. >> it was quite a scene yesterday. firefighters were busy fighting fires to 11 houses on two niche blocks. all but two houses were vacant. five rowhouses went up in flames there. then three more caught fire on the other side. firefighters rushed to houses on the next block. everyone did get out safely. no word on what caused the first fire, but officials are pretty sure of what happened on north cary street. >> one consideration is there may have been embers that may have been blown from one fire across the street to the next may have ignited that one. we don't know at this point. >> in all 100 firefighters responded. one firefighter suffered minor injuries. mindy back to you. >> a 34-year-old columbia man who survived an apartment fire is charged with not only setting the blaze, but killing his ex-wife moments earlier. damon white set fire to the apartment to cover up the murder of the 35-year-old woman. she obtained a restraining order against her husband in 2008. >>
running out into the night. >> jennifer franciotti has the update for us. >> good morning. this fire broke out after 2:00 a.m. this morning. inside this house behind the green fields nursery at the corner of northern parkway and falls road. working at the exxon station, across the corner, you say you saw the flames? >> yes. it was almost 2:25 a.m. i was inside working. when i saw the flame, i thought it was the moonlight, and then after a while i was walking in and after a minute, when i looked out it was getting bigger and bigger. i thought it was fire then and trying to call 911. then i saw the fire trucks coming and said somebody called already. i was walking but the whole time it was getting bigger and bigger. one of the men from the firefighter told me it was like over 100 feets of fire. >> it was very big. >> yes. >> thank you so much for describing what you saw. we want to let you know what happened. apparently this started on the second floor. there were six people inside. four women, a grandfather and a 10-year-old boy. one of the women, a grandmother had to jump from an attic win
